Worcester Livestock Market - Saturday, 28th May 2011
The first of a series of reduction sales from Mike and Sue Bancroft’s noted “Moonshine” herd leading up to their retirement attracted a capacity crowd at Worcester, a good sound level of demand in all sections and a top price of 760gns for ‘Moonshine Evening Song’, a 5 year old cow with heifer calf at foot to C.A.R. Cottam, Callington, Cornwall. The trip from Cornwall for Mr Cottam proved successful taking 5 lots in the sale, another cow ‘Moonshine Pipsqueek’, classified Very Good 85 with steer calf at 700gns and a served heifer ‘Moonshine Mandeline’ at 540gns.
Oxfordshire based breeders RW Elsey from Hook Norton took 3 cows and calves all at 600gns, all with heifer calves at foot.
Served heifers peaked at a creditable 600gns for Moonshine Lace taken to Fleggburgh, Norfolk by J. Angel.
Maiden heifers were a selective trade but topped at 320gns for ‘Moonshine Deli’ by R & A Williams, Henley in Arden, Warks.
Averages:
5 Autumn calvers with calves £697.20
9 Spring calvers with calves £628.83
